The Oakland Police Department has recently reported a concerning trend in the city: an uptick in residential burglaries where the suspects are disguising themselves as Amazon workers. According to the police department, there have been several cases reported where the suspected burglars are dressed in Amazon delivery driver vests and approach a residence to determine if it is occupied or not.
This tactic is particularly concerning as many people have become accustomed to seeing Amazon delivery drivers on a regular basis due to the rise of online shopping. It is easy for these burglars to blend in and potentially go unnoticed as they carry out their illegal activities.
Once the suspects determine that the residence is unoccupied, they force entry into the home and take several items before leaving in a vehicle. This type of crime not only poses a threat to the safety and security of residents, but it also raises concerns about the trustworthiness of delivery drivers and the possibility of fake delivery services being used as a cover for illegal activities.
